Berlin is Germany’s capital city and simultaneously a federal state (city-state). Its parliament is called the Abgeordnetenhaus and the head of government is the Regierender Bürgermeister/in. Berlin was divided by the Berlin Wall from 1961 until 1989. After reunification in 1990 it became the capital of reunified Germany. It is home to the Bundestag, Brandenburg Gate, and numerous world-class museums and cultural institutions.
